La Fortuna in San Carlos, Costa Rica is a beautiful town located on the eastern slopes of the Arenal Volcano with a population of about 12,000 people.
Formerly a farming area, La Fortuna is now a thriving destination that has embraced tourism but held on to its roots. Only in La Fortuna will you see modern tour buses and ox carts sharing the road.
A variety of services are found in La Fortuna: Banks, clinics, schools, etc. It is also the headquarters for transportation (public and private) to the most interesting destinations countrywide. A small airstrip is found outside the town, where several domestic flights to the beaches or San Jose are available year round.
