At the Chachagua Rainforest Hotel, we experience the natural wonders our planet has to offer daily, and we believe it is each of our responsibility to protect the environment with sustainable solutions. Through dedication and innovative thinking, we have established eco-friendly practices and environmental programs that offer a paradigm of sustainability in the heart of Costa Rica.
Chachagua Rainforest Hotel & Hacienda is a working ranch surrounded by its own Biological Station. We organically grow our own crops including herbs, tomatoes, lettuce, yucca and plantains. The organic fertilizer used to grow our crops is produced from our compost using residuals from the kitchen. We also produce eggs, milk, and homemade cheese, butter and sour cream. Discarded waste from the ranch is used in our bio-digestor, producing Metan Gas which fuels the kitchen.
We also have a reforestation program, involving our guests and local kids in our efforts to help the environment. Our goal is to plant more than 500 trees per month, using only native species.

Certificate of Sustainable Tourism Awarded:
We are very excited to announce the Chachagua Rainforest Hotel has been awarded the Certificate of Sustainable Tourism! This certificate is provided under the Ministry of Tourism of Costa Rica and approved by the National Accreditation Committee. This certificate recognizes the commitment of the Chachagua Rainforest Hotel to be a proper steward of nature, to protect and promote the local cultures and to improve the quality of life of the surrounding communities. The certificate is achieved after a very thorough inspection of the property is completed based on 250 different criteria. We are very proud to be the recipient of this certificate!
