The climate of the zone is the typical of the
tropical rain forest, ideal for a great diversity of flora and fauna.
Chachagua Rain Forest Hotel is surrounded by
trails where the visitor can appreciate the great variety of species of
birds such as the blue-gray tanager, the passerinii, red-legged
honey-creeper, white-crowned flycatcher, these among other
one hundred species. Amongst the mammals of the area,
you can find the northern raccoon, the white nosed coati,
the howler monkey and larger species such as the ocelot, the
jaguar and two species of sloths.
Dendrology lovers will be delighted to find
giants on the brink of extinction; massive specimens of the mahogany
tree, the mountain almond (terminalia oblonga), the
laurel tree and other species to name a few, commonly
abound. Amidst these jungles, the beautiful tropical
flowers adorn the
deep
intense greenery of the dense forest. “Heliconias”,
“ziagiberaceas”, strilitriae (bird of paradise) and the
colorful
“passiflora” (passion-flower) are quite common in the Tilarán area Mountain Range
where our forest extends and is the source of four streams of pristine
water; streams that finally flow into the San Carlos River,
the most important waterway of the country.
