In 1985, Mr. Carlos Salazar, a pioneer in the development of tourism and the hotel industry, purchased 100 hectares (247 acres) of land in and around the rainforest reserves of Costa Rica. For years the land was used as a farm for him and his family’s leisure and recreation. In 1992 Mr. Salazar used the land and existing buildings to start a 15 room hotel, The Chachagua Rainforest Hotel.
Today, the Chachagua Rainforest Hotel is a 31 room, sustainable rainforest hotel. Located near the scenic Arenal volcano in the Chachagua Rain Forest, and adjacent to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, it is the perfect destination for eco-tourists, adventure and pleasure seekers, as well as naturalists.
Since its inception, the Chachagua Rain Forest Hotel has lodged thousands upon thousands of tourists, and has been featured in the book 1,000 Places to See Before You Die by Patricia Schultz. Its patrons have come to love the hotel, not only for its location in a ‘tropical paradise’, but also because of the friendly staff, whose local knowledge is a great benefit to all our visitors.
